closely on fact, Faraway Home tells the poignant story of two Jewish children,
Karl & Rosa Muller, who escape from Nazi Vienna on a Kindertransport. With
other Jewish refugee children they eventually find a haven in Northern Ireland
on a farm, set up for the purpose by the Belfast Jewish Community in a
beautiful but remote village at Millisle, County Down. There, in a totally
strange land, they attend the village school, begin to learn the language, meet
Jewish children from Dublin (neutral in the war) and a local evacuee, and,
gradually, despite homesickness and fear about the war and the fate of their
families left behind under the Nazis, they gradually learn to make a new life.
The story ends on a note of hope.]
