Question 21.3.5:
Playtime: Can my kid play with Playdough during Pesach?

Answer:

If you are talking commercial playdough, the answer is no. Playdough contains chometz (products made from the 7 grains prohibited on Passover). An alternative solution to Playdough might be real clay or real modelling clay. You should read the ingredients to ensure that there are no chometz or chometz-derived ingredients.

Note that, for traditional Jews, there would be a problem with real modelling clay during Shabbat, given the prohibitions on constructing things or creating (i.e, various forms of art).

The FAQ is a collection of documents that is an attempt to answer questions that are continually asked on the soc.culture.jewish family of newsgroups. It was written by cooperating laypeople from the various Judaic movements. You should not make any assumption as to accuracy and/or authoritativeness of the answers provided herein.
